Pixação lecture: Fábio Vieira & Bruno Rodrigues & Micaela Altamirano – Coletivo ArdePixo

29. November 2018, 19:30 – 21:00

Pixação is a practice of writing in public space originating from the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It is an urban culture that besides leaving its marks on walls in public space, also occupies the facades and the very top of the city center’s skyscrapers. Each pixador or group of pixadores create their own pixo, that is a unique mark, an original calligraphy, to be part of the pixação-movement. This mark follows the characteristic pixação style, with geometric and elongated vertically letters, but maintains unique traces which translate the identity of each individual or group.
At Brasilea, the Brazilian artists/pixadores Bruno Rodrigues and Fábio Vieira will present some of the creation process of the pixo and aspects of the pixação urban culture with the participation of researchers Paula Larruscahim and Micaela Altamirano (Coletivo ArdePixo). The audience will be invited to try their own pixo and to discuss pixação’s social and political context with the artists.
